The legacy of a century of decline and its influence on naval procurement.
The aim of this work is to establish the current main shipbuilding strategy and how we got to it. Knowing where you are is essential to plotting a course to where you want to get to - i.e. the disruption that will be the next shipbuilding strategy. It was published in the excellent SNAME JSP in 2017.
I wrote this in response to the common use of Titanic in the media to try to convey how big a ship is - "twice the size of the Titanic!" for example. It tells you nothing and certainly gives no idea of how big a ship might be. There must be a better way!
I am lodging this to help any students trying to get to grips with shipbuilding - these are the references that I found useful in research.
